Open Urban Data Platform as a centralised solution for the efficient use of your municipal data: [ui!] UrbanPulse

In the wake of demographic change and advancing digitalisation, citizens' demands on quality of life are increasing.

Cities and municipalities are facing the challenge of becoming more sustainable and service-orientated. The open urban data platform [ui!] UrbanPulse offers a centralised solution for this.

It combines data, information and knowledge from complex municipal systems to create new services and added value for citizens, municipal companies and other organisations. This digital infrastructure integrates existing and new types of infrastructure, data storage and services from the public and private sectors and forms the basis for a large number of data-driven use cases and future urban projects.

In December 2017, the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN) adopted "DIN SPEC 91357 - Reference Architecture Model Open Urban Platform (OUP)" as a specification standard. This reference architecture, which was developed with the participation of companies, local authorities and academia, serves as a recognised template for the development of integrated digital smart city solutions. Digitalisation enables municipalities to better understand and overcome new challenges with the help of data collected via sensors and similar technologies.

The Open Urban Data Platform acts as a central link between different systems. It enables the efficient management, control and utilisation of urban data and offers the opportunity to make this data available to third parties, the economy and society.

Functionalities

With [ui!] UrbanPulse, the municipality is given the opportunity to collect, store and process data. To do this, the relevant data must first be transferred to [ui!] UrbanPulse via an interface. This provision takes place in the name and on behalf of the municipality and exempts [ui!] from the rights of third parties.

Utilisation of the data by third parties is expressly intended and desired. Any rights of use are regulated separately. The package includes the following functionalities:

  • Provision and technical operation of [ui!] UrbanPulse as Software-as-a-Service operated in the public Microsoft Azure Germany Cloud
  • Administration access for customisation and configuration of [ui!] UrbanPulse
  • Support (5x8) during GMT+1 time zone
  • Training of technical staff (2 PD) - Cloud costs are not included
  • Minimum term: 12 months

With [ui!] UrbanPulse, [ui!] provides the municipality with standard operational services. [ui!] UrbanPulse is provided ready for operation if the municipality has been given access to a functional [ui!] UrbanPulse system.

What happens to the data

The value of data and its potential uses depend to a large extent on its "degree of refinement". While raw data merely represents an unorganised mass of data from which no direct conclusions can yet be drawn, structured data as information already lays the foundation for further data analyses.

These analyses ultimately result in concrete knowledge that forms the basis for new innovative services. This knowledge gain creates significant added value for citizens, municipal companies and other organisations.

By refining the data with the open urban data platform [ui!] UrbanPulse, data is efficiently collected, structured and analysed in order to enable more liveable and sustainable urban development and to be able to react to challenges in a targeted manner and continuously improve their services.

Your data always remains under your control!

As the owner of large volumes of urban data, you should organise your data sovereignty using an integrated, open and real-time-capable data platform including analysis tools. This gives you an overview of all your data and its utilisation at all times. Existing and new urban data can be used to create new added value and added value for your citizens.

Data connection

All use cases that we have tested and preconfigured can be selected from our standard set of use cases for specific topics. The prerequisite is that your data sources can be connected with existing connectors from our [ui!] connector library. You must fully fulfil the necessary provision obligations from the service description with regard to the data sources. The visualisation, which is based on the standard tile catalogue without any changes, is preconfigured by you using the configurator and then created for you by us.
