[ui!] realizes central data platform for Darmstadt
Together with the consortium partners ekom21 and DA-RZ, [ui!] will develop one of the largest urban data platforms in Europe for Darmstadt, the city of science. In a meeting last Wednesday (16th), the City Council of the Science City of Darmstadt decided to have a data platform set up by Digitalstadt Darmstadt GmbH, the company commissioned for the call for proposals.
The new central data platform will be used to collect, process, analyze and visualize different types of data - such as measurements from the extensive network of environmental sensors and data from the volume of mobility including local public transport and other non-personal data from everyday life.
The data collected will primarily be used to support and accelerate urban planning and decision-making processes, as well as to develop new concepts for the urban quality of life in Darmstadt. The data platform will link data streams from different urban systems, thereby creating added value - especially for new applications for local ecology, urban economy and social services.
The overall result is a digital image of the city in real-time. "We have paid particular attention to IT security and data protection: the data platform does not process personal data and acts in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the digital city of Darmstadt," said Lord Mayor Jochen Partsch at the presentation of the project.
